Industrial bag filter housing components

A bag filter housing should be reviewed as a pressure-containing assembly, not only as a shell and filter bag. The closure, basket, sealing interface, nozzles, vents, drains, supports and instruments all affect safe operation, maintenance access and compatibility with the process.

Shell, head and closure

Confirm the housing material, design pressure and temperature, corrosion allowance and applicable construction standard. Inspect the shell, welds and cover for damage or corrosion. The closure type should suit the required opening frequency and site safety procedure; clamps, swing bolts, hinges and lifting aids must be checked before operation.

Filter bag, basket and sealing components

Basket and filter bag interface

The support basket prevents the bag from deforming under differential pressure. Verify basket diameter, length, perforation condition and seating. The filter bag ring or collar must match the housing seal design. A bag that is approximately the right size may still bypass if the top seal and basket geometry do not match.

Gasket and sealing surfaces

Select the gasket or O-ring from the fluid chemistry, concentration, temperature, cleaning agent and pressure cycle. Inspect grooves and mating surfaces for contamination, scratches, distortion or an incorrectly seated seal. Do not assume that one elastomer is suitable for every process.

Materials reviewed for process compatibility

Inlet, outlet, vent and drain

Connection size, rating, orientation and flange standard should match the approved piping drawing. The vent supports controlled filling and air removal; the drain supports safe emptying and maintenance. Their valves and discharge routing must fit the operating procedure and process hazards.

Instruments and supports

Differential-pressure indication helps determine when the bag requires inspection or replacement, but the change-out limit should be established from the filter media, process and housing design. Check gauge ports, transmitters, support legs, anchors, lifting points and required service clearance as part of the installation review.

Pre-start and maintenance checklist

Use the FiltEdgeUS filter housing resource center for related configuration references. U.S. project support is available through FiltEdge, while manufacturing and engineering documentation can be reviewed through SFFILTECH.

Review a Housing Assembly

Provide the process conditions, bag dimensions, connection details and approved drawing so the component interfaces can be checked before quotation or replacement.
