Bag filter housing size should be selected from the process duty, not from a generic small, medium, or large label. The correct configuration depends on required flow, fluid properties, allowable pressure drop, filter bag dimensions, piping connections, operating pressure and the space available for bag removal.
Start with the filter bag format
Confirm the bag diameter, length, collar or ring style and sealing interface before choosing a housing. A nominal bag size alone is not enough: the basket, top seal and cover geometry must match the selected filter bag. If an existing installation is being replaced, provide the current bag and basket dimensions or an approved drawing.

Check flow and allowable pressure drop
Flow capacity is application-specific. Viscosity, solids loading, micron rating, filter media and the permitted clean and change-out pressure drop all affect the required filtration area. Use verified process data rather than a fixed flow value copied from another project. High or variable flow may require a multi-bag configuration, parallel housings or a duplex arrangement.
Allow for connections and service clearance
Inlet and outlet size, orientation and flange standard must suit the site piping. Also check vent and drain locations, gauge ports, support legs, lifting access and the vertical or lateral clearance needed to remove the basket and bag. These details are especially important in retrofit projects and compact skids.

Match materials and design conditions
Housing, basket, gasket and closure materials should be checked against the fluid composition, concentration, temperature, pressure and cleaning method. State the required design code, corrosion allowance, surface finish, inspection and documentation requirements in the inquiry when applicable.
Information to include in a size review
- Fluid and solids characteristics
- Normal, minimum and maximum flow
- Operating and design pressure and temperature
- Target micron rating and preferred bag format
- Allowable pressure drop
- Connection size, rating and orientation
- Available installation and maintenance space
- Material, gasket, testing and documentation requirements
